Marie Sølverud Wangen holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management from Michigan Technological University (MTU) and is halfway through a master’s degree in Industrial Economics at NMBU. One of the reasons she chose to intern at THEMA is its leading expertise in power market analysis.
The internship is a great opportunity to learn from skilled professionals in the industry. I’m also curious about consulting and the breadth of challenges it involves.
She is currently working on analysing the market impact of a potential new interconnector between two European countries.
What I find most exciting about the power system is its complexity. The interplay between markets, technology and regulation is constantly evolving, creating problems with no easy answers.
She looks forward to contributing to projects at THEMA and hopes to leave with a deeper understanding of the energy industry and the consulting profession.
Benjamin Svarød is halfway through a master’s degree in Industrial Economics at NTNU in Trondheim. He chose THEMA because he wants to learn more about the energy and power sector from people who truly know the field.
I know I want to work in energy going forward, and THEMA is a place where I can experience a wide range of problems and get a sense of which parts of the sector I find most interesting.
He is already involved in several projects: valuing a hydropower plant, quantifying the societal benefits of district heating, and a commercial due diligence for a private equity firm. What interests Benjamin most about the energy sector is how deeply it is embedded in society.
Energy is socially relevant in so many different ways, from emergency preparedness and national security to political polarisation and people’s electricity bills.
Benjamin hopes to come away with practical experience that makes it easier to connect theory to real-world challenges.
We are happy to have Marie and Benjamin on the team this summer!
