THEMA strives to build an interdisciplinary team comprised of individuals with a diversity of professional backgrounds so that we can be even better at solving complex problems for our customers. In recent months, we have strengthened the team through the addition of an economist, a financial economist and two engineers. We are pleased to present our four talented new employees:
Lars
Lars has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Bergen. His first energy sector experience came through a student project for BKK, in which he and a group of students analysed the potential price effects of North Sea Link, the subsea interconnector cable linking Norway and the UK. He also has experience from the Norwegian Competition Authority and If Skadeforsikring, an insurance company. In his first months at THEMA, he has worked mostly with market design and market analysis, covering incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, support systems for the development of renewable energy and the climate and environmental effects of biogas production.
I chose to apply for a job at THEMA because it offers the opportunity to apply my education to exciting and interesting issues related to the power market and the energy transition. In everyday life, I get to work with a wide range of current issues including, among other things, electrification and the climate challenge.
Sigrid
Sigrid is a new civil engineering nanotechnology graduate from NTNU with a specialism in materials, energy and the environment. In 2018/19, she was on an exchange at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, where she attended the master’s programme Environmental Energy Technology. In her master’s thesis, Sigrid created a membrane for separating CO2 from hydrogen gas, with potential applications within carbon capture and storage. She has previously had a summer job at SUBPRO, in addition to several shorter-term student assistant positions. At THEMA, she has worked mainly on research, strategy consulting and business development projects for a wide range of players in the energy market.
In recent years, a lot of exciting things have happened in the renewable energy industry. I chose THEMA because, here, I get the opportunity to work with issues related to the energy transition.
Eirik
Eirik has a master’s degree in financial economics from the Norwegian School of Economics, NHH. He has previous work experience as a journalist in Dagens Næringsliv, an analyst in Askeladden & Co and an accountant in a project for Coop Øst. Eirik wrote his master’s thesis on investment incentives for power grids under different regulatory models. At THEMA, Eirik has worked on projects related to the indirect regulation of grid companies, the valuation of DSOs and with THEMA’s model of network revenue regulation (TIM), which is used to produce efficiency projections, regulated revenue calculations and analysis for power grid operators.
I started at THEMA because I got the impression that the company combines its strong professional expertise with a welcoming working environment. In addition, I had the opportunity to be actively involved in exciting projects from my first day on the job.
Haavard
Haavard has a doctorate and master’s degree in technical cybernetics from NTNU, where he has worked with mathematical modelling, simulation and analysis of dynamic systems. His work was mainly aimed at pressure regulation in oil wells, but also has applications in voltage regulation in transmission lines. Through various positions and a general interest in hydropower, Haavard also has previous knowledge of energy markets and the construction and operation of hydropower plants.
I wanted interdisciplinary work assignments within the energy sector, and THEMA is perfectly positioned with projects where technical systems knowledge, market design and business performance intersect.
