THEMA is a trusted provider of independent and bankable power price forecasts for the European power market. The reports cover the needs of utilities, investors, and other stakeholders looking for independent as well as professionally- and methodologically-solid expertise on power market developments.
In the coming update, our central scenario (“Best Guess”) is updated and aligned with the very latest EU targets, together with the implications of national climate and hydrogen strategies. This implies that THEMA’s Best Guess scenario assumes full carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with the current EU ambitions for climate policies.
The power market reports are based on results from our advanced power market simulation model, TheMA. As hydrogen is likely to play an important role in the future energy system, we model full sector coupling between the power and hydrogen sectors. In addition, we take account of hybrid projects and simulate an offshore grid in both the North and Baltic Seas.
Hybrid projects, i.e. the combination of offshore generation and transmission assets, potentially in combination with electrolysis, are also the special topic of our European market report, where we discuss market design challenges for hybrid projects based on our work for the European Commission (see THEMA report “Market arrangements for offshore hybrid projects in the North Sea”, 2020).
In the Nordic power market report, we cover insights on hedging options and policies in the Nordic market drawn from the results of our advanced weather year modelling. Results from the modelling of a wide range of historical weather years are included in the reporting and are delivered as a standard part of the Nordic report as of February 2021.
THEMA’s power market reports now cover most European markets, with a new report covering markets in Eastern Europe. All in all, we now offer a Nordic market report (covering the Nordic market on price zone level), a Central European Report (covering Germany, GB, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Austria), a Southern European Report (covering Iberia – Spain and Portugal, and Italy), a Baltic report (covering the Baltic states), and an Eastern European Report (covering Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia).
In addition, THEMA publishes a Green Values report that covers the EU-ETS, Guarantees of Origin and ElCertificates, and a Technology Outlook report looking at the impact of technological developments for the power sector. We also offer bespoke analysis for markets in the Balkan region.
