Sustainability is the main focus of the report’s second issue, a topic in which many readers have expressed an interest. Therefore, we dived deep into what the various electricity retailers are doing within sustainability. We have divided sustainability into three main areas: internal measures, partner measures and end-user measures. Internal measures describe whether the companies operate sustainably themselves. Partner measures describe how the companies influence their partners to behave sustainably. End-user initiatives look at how the companies influence end-users to make sustainable choices. We highlight good examples and measures without naming specific winners and losers. Our hope is that the good examples inspire others.
In the customer section of the report, we have focused on guarantees of origin, as a part of the overall theme of sustainability. We observe significant differences in how companies offer guarantees of origin, both when it comes to transparency, pricing and the structuring of agreements.
We have also developed a chapter we are calling Frenemies – a familiar concept from other industries. We see that players in the power industry increasingly need to both compete and cooperate with one another.
THEMA and Itera published the first issue of the Electricty Market Report in 2020. In response to the positive feedback, we have decided to publish a new issue regularly every six months. Each issue will cover a main theme and include updated chapters on the market, products, prices, customers and regulation.
