Simon models electricity markets and translates market developments into actionable insights for power companies. Typical questions that he is asked to answer include: “What will electricity prices look like in five years?”, “How do market design reforms affect an asset portfolio?”, and “What hedging strategy makes sense given current market conditions?”
To tackle these questions, Simon works with THEMA’s fundamental market model to develop quantitative price scenarios for Switzerland, Germany, and other European countries. He examines how regulatory changes e.g. capacity mechanisms, renewable subsidies, and cross-border coupling affect price formation and the market values of different asset classes. A core part of his work involves monitoring policy and market developments across Continental Europe and incorporating these changes into the modelling framework.

What really excites me about working at THEMA is the combination of rigorous quantitative analysis and direct strategic relevance. Building sophisticated market models requires both technical depth and clear thinking about what drives real market outcomes. This balance between analytical precision and practical application makes the work intellectually satisfying.
The energy sector is undergoing fundamental transformation, and being able to quantify these changes through market modelling gives me a clear sense of contribution. I also appreciate working with colleagues who maintain high analytical standards while staying focused on delivering actionable insights to clients.
